INTRODUCTION OF THE DEPARTMENT
Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in the year 2004 with an intake of 60 and was enhanced to 90 and 120 in the years 2005 and 2006, respectively. Department has well qualified and experienced teaching faculty and technical staff with state of the art laboratories to meet the quality education required for present challenging societal and industrial needs. Department is involved in research activities in the areas of Ubiquitous/Pervasive computing technologies, Intelligent Agent Technologies, Computational Intelligence Applications, Image Processing and Database Management. Most of the students are well placed in reputed industries as well as continuing higher education in the premier institutes. Department is actively involved in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities with associations and professional bodies. Department as an association called RACE through this association department strives to organize many technical and non-Technical activities. The association also encourages the students in their activites by suitably awarding them.

FACILITIES AND INFRASTRUCTURE
Department has very good infrastructure comprising of separate space for different laboratories. Some of the laboratories are Computer-Programming Lab, Data Structures Lab, Database Management Lab, System Programming Lab, Microprocessor/Microcontroller Lab, Computer Networks Lab, Java Programming Lab, Project Lab and Research Lab. The total carpet area of the Department is around 1000 sq. meters. Computing facilities comprises of 175 (Pentium IV) computers with Linux/Windows XP operating system, application, and simulation and system software's.
Library
Department of CSE include 819 numbers of Book titles and 4551 numbers of Book volumes in the main Library. Department has access to online journals and transactions through IEL online subscriptions of Nationaland International Journals/Magazines like IEEE transactions on Software Engineering, Elsewhere journals. Digital library facility is available in main Library to facilitate information access from Internet and Intranet.
Campus Network
The Institute and Department are well connected through a Campus Network and have an access to an Internet at data rate of 8Mbps. All the machines in the Laboratories are connected to campus network. Some of the Laboratories are equipped with wireless Lan, IEEE 802.11g
HUMAN RESOURCES
Department has well qualified and experienced staff with an average teaching experience of about 12 years. There are Professors with Doctoral degree and Post Graduate degree, 5 Assistant professors, 1 senior lecturer and 5 Lecturers. Some of the faculty members have registered for Ph. D. in the areas of Computer Networking and Database management. There are well qualified technical staff members who maintain the various Laboratories and are responsible for smooth conduction and maintenance of laboratories.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
The faculties in the department are actively involved in Research and Development. The areas of research are Ubiquitous/Pervasive computing technologies, Intelligent Agent Technologies, Computational Intelligence Applications, Computer Networking, Image Processing, Data mining, Genetic programming and Database management. INAUGURATION OF DEPARTMENT CHAPTER – RACE
Inauguration of departmental chapter – RACE (REVA’s ASPIRING COMPUTER ENGINEERS) and orientation program for students were held on 5th Sept 2011 at 9:30 am.
The Principal, REVA ITM, Dr. R P Reddy presided over the function as Chief Guest. The DEAN (R & D), REVA ITM, Dr. S S Manvi was the guest of Honour. HOD (CSE) handed over the badges of all the office bearers of RACE. All the staff and students of CSE department were present on this occasion. RACE Coordinator Mr. Mallanagouda Patil had coordinated this function. The toppers from each semester were distributed prizes and certificates. Cultural programs were conducted and Teacher’s day was also observed. The function lasted for four hours.

Technical Talk Held On 10th September 2011
A Technical talk was organized on “Bio-Medical Informatics” by Dr. H G Nagendra, Prof and Head, Department of Bio-Technology, Sir MVIT Bangalore on 10. 09. 2011 (Saturday) at 1:30 PM in seminar hall-1. All the staff and students of CSE Department were present to the technical talk. Prof. Rohini Deshpande(HOD-CSE) was also present to grace the occasion. Prof. Ashwin Kumar and RACE Coordinator Mr. Mallanagouda Patil had coordinated this technical talk.

Inauguration of CSE-CNE M-Tech Programme and Technical Talk on C# And .Net
Inauguration of CSE-CNE M-Tech programmes was held on 1st October 2011. Dr. Rajnikanth, Advisor, Academic and Research, MSRIT Bangalore was the chief guest.Dr. Rana Pratap Reddy, Principal REVA ITM, Bangalore presided over the function.Dr. SunilKumar S Manvi, Dean R & D and Prof. Rohini Deshpande (HOD-CSE) had also graced this occasion. All the dignitaries gave their expert advice and guidance to the M.Tech students. Prof. Sathish, Prof Suresha and RACE Coordinator Mr. Mallanagouda Patil had coordinated and organized this function. More than hundred people including staff and students were part of this function. There was also a Practical Oriented technical talk on C# and .NET by Mr. Raghavendra from Cerner HealthCare Solutions Ltd. This technical event was organised and coordinated by RACE Coordinator Mr. Mallanagouda Patil. Around fifty students from CSE and ISE have attended this technical talk. The memento and Bouquet were presented to the guest speaker by Prof. Rohini Deshpande (HOD-CSE)

STUDENT ACHIVEMENTS

Many students all over India appeared for GATE-2011. As many as 136027 students appeared for the Computer Science & IT paper. Many final year students from the department of computer Science and engineering wrote GATE-2011 of which most of them secured eligibility to get a rank. One amongst them was SURAJ NAYAK, who secured an ALL INDIA RANK OF 428 with the following score.

VTU is one of the largest Universities in India with 208 colleges affiliated to it. The University encompasses various technical & management fields. Many final year students from the department of computer Science and engineering has passed the Degree Examination held during July 2010. One amongst them was SHRUTI RAMESH, who secured an VTU RANK OF 8 & Also secured an ALL INDIA GATE RANK OF 10022

University Toppers
Devaraj G. And Indumathi are the university toppers in the examination held during July 2011 for 8th semister. Devaraj scored 657 out of 900 and Indumathi scored 658 out of 900.

TRAINING AND PLACEMENT ACTIVITIES
Department supports training and placement cell of Institute to conduct Programmes on latest Technologies, Personality Development and training for competitive exams.
